Important Information On Court Notice Communications

TO OUR MEMBERS: IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING COURT NOTICE COMMUNICATIONS (10-17-2011)

After the city refused to pay 2 ½ times the Overtime rate of pay for Overnight Court Notices on Jury Trials, the FOP went back before the Act 111 Arbitration Panel.

The panel has agreed with the FOP that Overnight Court notices mean just that.

Regrettably, some members of the panel now seek to require Police Officers to maintain e-mail accounts and provide them to the city along with maintaining a voicemail or answering machine system.  The FOP is appealing this portion of the award, which unduly burdens our members.

The FOP strongly urges all members NOT to provide an email address to the city.  We highly recommend that you continue to designate a phone number as your preferred method of communication from the department regarding court notices.

We are gratified that the panel agreed with our arguments about how disruptive overnight court notices are to you and your families.

  1. Today, I went to the beach front with my kids. I found a sea shell
and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She put the shell to her
ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched
her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is
completely off topic but I had to tell someone!
